What is a Goldendoodle?
A Goldendoodle is a crossbreed between a Poodle, either miniature or standard, and a Golden Retriever. They are intelligent, friendly, people-loving, love children and other pets. They are moderately active, very easily trained, and have minimal shedding. For those of you who have allergies, they are hypo-allergenic and do very well with allergies. We do recommend F1Bs rather than F1s if you have severe allergies. Goldendoodles are moderately active dogs. They need a walk or active playtime each day for their overall health, and are athletic enough to participate in family activities such as swimming, hiking, walking, camping, ect.
What are the Goldendoodle generations?
If you are not familiar with the Goldendoodle breed, the different generations can be a little confusing. Here at Norwood we mainly offer three different generations: F1, F1B, and multigen.
An F1 is 50% Golden Retriever and 50% Poodle with the mother being a Golden Retriever and the father being either a mini or standard Poodle. The F1s tend to have straighter, more wavy hair. The F1 generation has more shedding than the other generations do, but the shedding is much less than a Golden Retriever. An F1B is 75% Poodle and 25% Goldendoodle. The mother is an F1 Goldendoodle bred with a mini or standard Poodle. They have more of a tighter curl than an F1 has, and the shedding is minimal to non-shedding. If you have allergies, the F1B is recommended. Although the F1BB label can mean different things for different breeders, our F1BB refers to an F1B Goldendoodle bred with a Poodle. The F1BB is approximately 85% Poodle and 15% Golden Retriever. Although the amount of Golden Retriever in them is small, they still keep their valued Golden Retriever characteristics. |
What sizes can you get?
They come in three sizes: Mini (20-35 lb), Medium (35-45 lb), and Standard (45-60 lb). Because goldendoodles are a crossbreed, the weight can only be estimated. There is no guarantee that your puppy will fall into the desired weight range.
How do I groom my goldendoodle?
Typically, your Goldendoodle will need trimmed every 6-12 weeks depending on your personal preference of how long you like their fur to be. Whether you choose to get your dog professionally groomed or try your hand at grooming your doodle at home, there are a few different tools needed for basic grooming for your doodle. Some basic grooming tools are a slicker brush, a steel comb, and nail clippers.
What is a Bernedoodle?
A Bernedoodle is a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a standard or mini Poodle. Bernedoodles are steady-tempered and easy going as well as intelligent, strong, and agile. They do very well with children and are very obedient although they can have the trait of being stubborn and hardheaded occasionally. They have beautiful, colorful coats ranging from tricolor, to pure black, to golden colored. The standard size can grow up to 80 lb while the minis can be as small as 40 lb.

How do we socialize our puppies?
Our puppies are very well socialized being held from the time they are born till they leave for their new home. While they are growing, we introduce them to new environments to ensure they are comfortable with many surroundings. The evidence of our loving socialization is seen in the way our puppies will warm up to you right away as well as try to play tug-a-war with you with their favorite toy.
How does selection and pickup work?
Now that you have decided that a Goldendoodle or a Bernedoodle is right for you, you may be wondering what your next step is. The first step in adopting your puppy is sending a $300 deposit to reserve a spot on our waiting list as well as send us an application. This ensures a puppy from us to you. Once you have placed your deposit, we will be in contact with you on our upcoming litters. When we have placed you on the list for a specific litter, we will set up a time for you to come and select your puppy as well as pick it up. We typically have our selection and pickup on the same day. Keep in mind that your order of picking is determined by the time you sent your deposit. On these days, we have each costumer scheduled approximately a half hour apart for the picking process. While you are waiting for the pickup day to come, we keep the pictures updated so you can see how your puppy is growing.
May I come visit?
Although we would love to have a time for everyone to come visit, unfortunately, we do not allow visitors unless they have a scheduled appointment to pick out/pick up their puppy. This being because, we make sure our puppies have been vet checked and vaccinated before meeting new friends. We also like to give our nursing mothers privacy to take care of their puppies.
